PhotoFit / Reduce an image to 200 KB
Reduce an image to 200 KB or less
Add your photo and it is compressed to fit under 200 KB, keeping as much quality as possible. Crop first, or set an exact width and height if the form needs one.
Drag to move the photo. Pinch, scroll or use the slider to zoom.
The file stays on your device. We aim a little under your limit so it passes whether the portal counts a KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes.
How it works
Add your photo
Choose a picture, drop it on the page or paste it. It opens on your device and is never uploaded.
Set what the form asks for
Pick a preset or type the pixels and the KB limits. Drag to crop, and pinch, scroll or use the slider to zoom.
Download the file
The result is checked against your limits before you download it.
Questions
How do I reduce an image to 200 KB?
Add your photo above. The tool lowers the JPEG quality, and if needed the pixel size, until the file is under 200 KB. Then download it.
Will the picture still look good at 200 KB?
It depends on the picture and its size. The tool keeps quality as high as the limit allows and only shrinks the pixel size when quality alone is not enough. Cropping closer to the subject also helps.
Can I reduce a PNG or screenshot to 200 KB?
Yes. The result is a JPEG, and transparent areas become white. Screenshots with flat colours and text may look better saved as PNG, but most upload forms ask for JPEG.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. PhotoFit resizes your photo inside your browser. The picture never leaves your device, so there is nothing to store or delete.
Why is my file a little under the limit?
Portals disagree on whether a kilobyte is 1000 or 1024 bytes. The tool stays slightly below your maximum and above your minimum so the file passes either way.
What if the form needs a minimum file size?
If a picture compresses below the minimum, the tool adds invisible padding to the JPEG until it reaches the minimum. The picture itself does not change.
Which pictures can I use?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF. The result is always a JPEG, the format almost every upload form accepts. For iPhone photos in HEIC, share or save them as JPEG first, or open this page in Safari.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Drag with one finger to move the picture and pinch to zoom. The download button stays at the bottom of the screen.
Does it remove location data from my photo?
Yes. The picture is redrawn and saved as a new file, which drops location, camera and date information.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up, watermark or ads. Voluntary donations pay for hosting.
